$1,500 in todays financial evironment depending on your other circumstances may place you in a difficult financial situation. Although it may be difficult you must learn financial discipline with even the meanest of incomes. One out standing book provides the key to the success secrets of the Ancients-George S. Clason's book The Richest Man In Babylon. The key to fincial success according to the book is to first pay your self and to do it with a set percentage each and every month for life. Clason's book recommends 10% but at this point that may not be possible, so select a percent that is possible. 5% per month is $900 per year and due to what Einstein called one of the wonders of the world, compounding, if you never increased the amount but was earning 5% per year tax deferred by the end of 25 years you would have $45,102. The key is to get started and as your income grows increase the percent.

The only disagreement I have with Clason is paying me first. As a man of faith I believe your first payment must go to the Lord. I know that most believe that amount should be at least 10% and while that is notable it just may not be possible now. Select the percent, perhaps equal to what you pay your self but do it every month and as with paying yourself grow the percent as your income grows. By doing both you will become disciplined and amazed at how far your income will go. As your savings grow you will experience a good bit of pride at your accomplishment.
